Recovery from Facelifts

As with any surgical procedure, recovery time from facelift surgery will often depend on the overall health of the patient both before and after the operation. Those in good health can generally expect a faster recovery time. Around one or two days after the surgery you can expect to be returning to your feet as long as you do not undergo any vigorous activities for just under a week after the procedure. In terms of returning to work, patients can expect this to occur after three weeks (depending on the task at hand of course), with exercise becoming safe after six.

Directly after the surgery, you will find that your face is tightly wrapped up in bandages which run around the ears and over the head – depending on whether the incision continues under the chin, there may be bandages here as well. These will remain in place for a couple of days. In some cases, some plastic tubes will drain blood and fluids from the wounds and into a bag

Underneath these bandages, you can expect some bruising and some swelling in the area that the surgery took place and as a result your surgeon may require you to keep your head in an elevated position to keep this under control. Once the plastic tubes that drain fluids are removed and the bandages taken away the next things to be removed will be your stitches, which in itself will occur after around five days. If you have any metal clips in place, these will be taken out after two weeks.

After this, doctors will require you to undergo check ups in the following months to make sure your progress is going okay and that there are no discrepancies. If such discrepancies arise during your recovery such as bleeding, pains or any issues with your heart beat you should contact your doctor straight away even if you have just had a check up.

In all, the total recovery time for patients is usually between two and three weeks. However, this is just a general estimation and should not be taken as official as naturally, this will vary from patient to patient.
